As we sat in for more lab reviews this morning, I realized that I was not bored because today’s talks highlighted a different aspect of fabrication. Often we make something because we have a practical use for it, or we just want to play with it. However, Fablab Dynamic and Makerbar Taipei make things designed to address a social or environmental issue, and digital fabrication is only a means to an end.
Take for example, Fablab Dynamic‘s Fab x Eco project is motivated by dog owners’ underserved need to customize wheel chairs for their beloved dogs. Using traditional manufacturing methods, such wheelchairs are costly and may not fit well to all dogs. Fablab Dynamic not only made their design open-source but also designed it such that the owner or the pet industry can simply enter the height and weight etc. of a dog and have the custom design generated for digital fabrication. Imagine how happy this would make the dog and its owner! We encourage you to read Fablab Dynamic and Makerbar Taipei‘ blogs (Tip: Google translation is handy) for more inspiration on how we makers can put our skills to create impacts socially and environmentally.
In the afternoon, we conducted a workshop called “Chameleon Lamp” for FAN2 participants. Read More »
Yesterday our Indiegogo campaign to raise fund for attending the Second Fablab Asia Network Conference (FAN2) finally concluded. It achieved above and beyond what we could have hoped for, and that is only possible because of the amazing support and generosity from our friends, colleagues, family as well as their friends. Only 3 more days till FAN2 officially kickstarts, do check this blog daily for our updates from the conference!
To the following campaign contributors and other anonymous supporters, thank you very much! We are so grateful that you believe in who we are and what we do.
Today is a special day because of many “firsts”. This was our first Arduino Day, first whole-day event since the founding of Fablab Saigon, first time having an Arduino cake (thanks Hoang Anh for this yummy idea!) and first time receiving that many visitors in just a day.Read More »
Last year we missed the deadline for Arduino Day. We were too busy setting up Fablab, but we said we wouldn’t miss it this year! So here we are, very happy to announce that we will be hosting Arduino Day 2015 at Fablab Saigon, the very first of such events in Vietnam.
Arduino Day is a worldwide celebration of Arduino’s birthday. It’s a 24 hours-long event –organized directly by the community, or by the Arduino team– where people interested in Arduino get together, share their experiences, and learn more. Not sure what on Earth is Arduino? Read More »
Last week, I went to Singapore for my holiday and networking. Therefore, the most unforgettable memory to me is that I had a chance to visit Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab) at Singapore Polytechnic. Fab Lab which was established 2 years ago with purpose to support student to foster their innovation, make their own projects and creative stuff such as 3D printing, solar car, laser gun, laser cut….
