Last year we missed the deadline for Arduino Day. We were too busy setting up Fablab, but we said we wouldn’t miss it this year! So here we are, very happy to announce that we will be hosting Arduino Day 2015 at Fablab Saigon, the very first of such events in Vietnam.
Arduino Day is a worldwide celebration of Arduino’s birthday. It’s a 24 hours-long event –organized directly by the community, or by the Arduino team– where people interested in Arduino get together, share their experiences, and learn more. Not sure what on Earth is Arduino? Find out at our event or visit http://www.arduino.cc.
1) Introduce newbies to the world of Arduino boards and their exciting possibilities. Newbies will have a hands-on experience at it!
2) Enable existing users of Arduino boards to showcase their Arduino projects
3) Grow an Arduino community in Vietnam and connect it with the global Arduino community
PROGRAM OF THE DAY
10:00 – 11:00: Welcome & Networking
BIRTHDAY SPECIAL We are celebrating Arduino’s birthday with… an Arduino cake! Come early to enjoy a free slice of cake, and a chance to network with other makers.
If possible, bring along your Arduino projects to share with our community.
10:30 – 11:30: Introduction to Arduino’ Workshop (morning session).
Limited to 10 people. Laptop required. Note that this runs in parallel with other activities.
11:00 – 14:30: Presentation and sharing of Arduino projects
- 11:00 – 11:30: Extreme Feedback Device with Arduino
Kiro Harada shares how he used an Arduino to create an extreme feedback device for Agile software development.
- 11:30 – 12:00: Sense-HCM-City Kit
Inspired by Data Canvas: Sense Your City project, several members of Fablab put together an Arduino-powered device that can tell us about environmental quality in Ho Chi Minh City. It can “sense” or measure levels of dust, noise, light, UV radiation, temperature and humidity. Official data for such are not readily available and we hope to shed some light on them.
- 12:00 – 12:30: Airlight Home Automation System
Do you want to control all the lights in your house without leaving the couch? Airlight is part of a custom made home-automation solution designed and constructed by Silicon Straits Saigon. It incorporates a Raspberry Pi, Arduinos and RF switches to control various devices in the same or across different home networks. To remotely access the switches, all you need is a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
- 12:30 – 13:00: Lunch break
- 13:00 – 13:30: Making Music with Fruits
“Where words fail, music speaks.” ― Hans Christian Andersen. How about learning the magic trick to turn common objects into a musical instrument so you can start your own show?
- 13:30 – 14:00: Build your own Arduino on a breadboard
After you make a fantastic project with the Arduino, you are then faced with the problem of what to do with it. You don’t want to tear it apart, but also want to use your Arduino Board for other projects. The solution? Make a cheap breadboard Arduino that replaces the original. Let instructors from the Vietnamese-German University show you how to make a cheap breadboard Arduino using just a few simple parts. Workshop materials will be provided for the first 15 participants. For your reference, here is the Bill of Materials.
- 14:00 – 14:30: Arduino-controlled Automatic Label Peeler
Often Arduino is good enough for our hobby project needs. But, is it suitable for industrial use? A couple of our friends said yes, and they used Arduino Uno to power a small machine that separates sticky labels from a continuous backing tape, as part of a commercial packaging process.
14:30 – 15:30: ‘Introduction to Arduino’ Workshop (afternoon session). Limited to 10 people. Laptop required.
All day event and workshops are pay-what-feels-right. At the event you will be invited to pay the amount that you feel is right for your participation. The money will go to support the Fablab community and similar initiatives.
For the workshop, seats are limited to the first 10 people, so come early to book your place. You also should bring your own laptop.
If you would like to showcase your project on that day, contact us at fablabsaigon at gmail.com or send us a Facebook message at https://www.facebook.com/FablabSaigon. Slots are very limited, so hurry up!
